North Korea is calling on the United States to lift sanctions imposed on Pyongyang. 

 

북한이 미국의 대북제재 해제를 요구하고 있다.

 

“Now is the high time to put an end to the U.S. anachronistic anti-DPRK hostile policy and its futile moves of sanctions and pressure,” said North Korea’s National Reunification Institute Director Ri Jong Hyok, as reported by Reuters. 

 

로이터 통신에 따르면, 북한의 리종혁 통일연구소장은 "지금이 미국의 시대착오적인 반북 적대정책과 무용지물인 제재와 압박 조치를 종식시켜야 할 적기"라고 말했다.

 

DPRK is the acronym for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the formal name of North Korea.

 

DPRK는 북한의 공식 명칭인 조선민주주의인민공화국의 머리글자이다.

 

President Trump earlier this month agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after a South Korean delegation visited the north. It would be the first meeting between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader. 

 

이번 달 초 트럼프 미국 대통령은 한국 대표단이 북한을 방문한 후 북한 김정은 위원장을 만나기로 합의했다. 현직 미국 대통령과 북한 지도자 사이의 첫 회담이 된다.

 

But the president said sanctions would remain in place until the United States reaches an agreement with Kim.

 

그러나 트럼프 대통령은 미국이 김 위원장과 합의에 도달하기 전까지 제재는 계속 유지될 것이라고 말했다.

 

“Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze,” Trump tweeted on March 8. “Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!”

 

트럼프 대통령은 3월 8일 "김정은이 동결이 아닌 남측 대표단과 비핵화를 논의했다"며, "또한 북한의 그 어떤 미사일 실험도 이 기간 동안에는 없을 것이다. 큰 진전이 이루어지고 있지만 제재는 합의가 이루어질 때까지 유지될 것이다. 회담이 계획중이다!"라고 트윗글을 올렸다.

 

Trump last year vowed to destroy North Korea should it provoke the United States and earlier this year announced a new set of sanctions on Pyongyang.

 

트럼프 대통령은 지난해 북한이 미국을 도발할 경우 북한을 파괴하겠다고 공언했으며 올해 초에는 북한에 대한 일련의 새로운 제재조치를 발표했다.

 

“The United States should properly understand our position and come out in a manner of sincere and serious attitude for positively contributing to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean peninsula,” said Ri, according to Reuters.

 

로이터에 따르면, 리종혁 소장은 “미국이 우리의 입장을 제대로 이해하고 한반도의 평화와 안정을 유지하기 위해 적극적으로 기여하는 진지하고 진중한 자세로 임해야 할 것”이라고 전했다.
