3월 1일 문재인 대통령은 김정숙 여사와 함께 99주년 삼일절 독립운동 기념행사에 참석했다. 문대통령은 기념 연설에서 일본은 가해자이며 가해자인

일본이 위안부 문제는 해결되었다라고 말하는 것은 옳지 않다고 비난했다.

 

특히 위안부 문제는 전쟁 중에 행해진 “비인도주의적 범죄”로 말 한마디로 끝났다고 해서 끝날 수 있는 문제가 아니라고 강조했다. 이어서 문 대통령은 불행한 역사에 대한 진정한 해결책은 그 불행했던 역사를 기억하고 그 역사로부터 교훈을 배우는 것이라고 강조했다.

 

문 대통령의 언급에 대해 일본 스가 관방장관은 문 대통령이 “2015년 한일합의를 반대하는 것”이라고 언급하며, 일본 정부는 문재인 대통령의 최근 발언에 대해 “강력한 항의”를 제기하겠다고 했다.

 

또한 문 대통령은 삼일절 기념식에서 “독도는 우리 고유의 영토”이며, 일본 정부가 이러한 사실은 인정하지 않는 것은 “(일본의) 제국주의 침략에 대한 자기반성을 거부하는 것과 별반 차이가 없는 것”이라고 강조했다.

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea’s president, marking the 99th anniversary of the launch of an independence movement from Japanese colonization, criticized Japan’s insistence that the issue of women forced to provide sex for Japanese troops in World War II has been settled.

 

한국, 서울 – 일본 식민지로부터 독립운동을 시작한 99주년을 맞이해서 문재인 대통령은 2차 세계 대전 중 일본 군에 강제로 성을 제공한 여성 문제는 끝났다라는 일본의 주장을 비난했다.

 

“The Japanese government, the perpetrator, should not say the matter is closed,” President Moon Jae-in said Thursday in a speech at a prison used by Japan to hold freedom fighters during the colonial era. “The issue of a crime against humanity committed in time of war cannot be closed with just a word. A genuine resolution of unfortunate history is to remember it and learn a lesson from it.”

 

목요일 문재인 대통령은 식민 시대 해방 전사들을 가두기 위해 일본이 이용한 한 감옥에서의 연설에서 “가해자인 일본 정부는 그 문제는 끝났다라고 말해선 안 된다”며, “이 문제는 전쟁 중에 저질러진 비인도주의적 범죄에 관한 문제는 말 한 마디로 절대 끝날 수 없는 것이다. 불행한 역사에 대한 진정한 해결은 그것을 기억하고 그것으로부터 교훈을 배우는 것입니다.”라고 말했다.

 

So-called comfort women provided sex for Japan’s military in conditions that many experts say were sexual slavery. Many of the women were from Korea, a Japanese colony from 1910 to 1945, and were taken to front-line brothels.

 

많은 전문가들이 성노예라고 언급하는 상황에서 소위 위안부는 일본군에 성을 제공했다. 많은 여성들이 1910년-1945년 일본 식민지 한국 출신이었으며 최전방 위안소에 수용되었다.

 

The previous South Korean government, under conservative President Park Geun-hye, signed an accord with Japan in late 2015 to settle the issue, which has bedeviled bilateral relations. Both governments called the agreement “final and irreversible.”

 

전 정권인 보수 박근혜 대통령 임기인 2015년 말에 한일관계를 괴롭혀 온 위안부 문제를 해결하기 위해 일본과의 합의를 체결했다. 양국 정부는 그 합의를 “최종적이고 불가역적”이라고 했다.

 

Moon’s government hasn’t tried to revise the accord, but he has questioned it.

 

문재인 정부는 그 합의를 수정하기 위해 노력하고 있지 않다. 그러나 문 대통령은 그 합의를 의심해 왔다.

The Japanese government said it lodged a “strong protest” over Moon’s latest remarks, which Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said go against the 2015 agreement.

 

요시다 스가 관방장관은 2015년 합의를 반대하는 것이라고 언급하며, 일본 정부는 문재인 대통령의 최근 발언에 대해 “강력한 항의”를 제기하겠다고 말했다.

 

“Japan has done everything in accordance with the accord,” he said. “We, then, strongly demand that South Korea fulfills its side of the pledge.”

 

스가 관방장관은 “일본은 그 합의에 따라 모든 것을 했다”라고 언급하며, “이제 우리는 그 합의 맹세의 한국측 역할을 충실히 이행할 것을 강력하게 요구한다”라고 말했다.

 

Moon also used the occasion to criticize Japan’s claim to a group of small islands that both countries say they own.

 

문 대통령 또한 한일 양국이 모두 소유권을 가지고 있다고 주장하는 작은 섬에 대한 일본의 주장을 비판하는 기회로 삼았다.

 

“It is our indigenous territory,” he said of the islands, called Dokdo in Korea and Takeshima in Japan. “Japan’s current denial of this fact is no different from rejecting self-reflection of (its) imperialistic invasion.”

 

문 대통령은 한국에서는 독도라고 불리고 일본에서는 다케시마라고 불리는 그 섬들에 대해 “독도는 우리 고유의 영토입니다”라고 말했다. 그리고 “현재 이런 사실에 대해 일본이 인정하지 않는 것은 (일본의) 제국주의 침략에 대한 자기반성을 거부하는 것과 별반 차이가 없는 것입니다.”라고 덧붙였다.
