SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea denied reports it had cooperated with Syria on chemical weapons, dismissing them as a fabrication by the United States to pressure the country, state media reported late Thursday.

 

사울(로이터) – 목요일 늦게 북한 국영 매체는 북한이 시리아와 화학 무기에 관한 협력했다는 보도를 북한을 압박하기 위한 미국의 조작이라고 묵살하면서 부인했다.

State run KCNA news agency cited a spokesman at the foreign ministry’s research institute of American studies arguing that the United States made a “nonsensical argument” that it helped Syria produce chemical weapons.

 

국영 조선중앙통신이 외교성 미국 연구소의 대변인의 말을 인용해 미국이 시리아가 화학무기를 생산하는데 북한이 도움을 주었는 "터무니 없는 논거"를 만들었다고 주장했다.

 

“As we have clearly said several times, our republic does not develop, produce and stockpile chemical weapons and opposes chemical weapons themselves,” the spokesman said, via KCNA.

 

조선중앙통신을 통해 그 대변인은 "몇 차례 분명히 말했듯이, 우리 공화국은 화학무기를 개발, 생산, 비축하지 않으며 화학무기 자체를 반대한다"고 말했다.

 

Robert Wood, U.S. disarmament ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament, said on Wednesday that there has been a history of a relationship between the two countries with regard to missile activity, chemical weapons components.

Two North Korean shipments to a Syrian government agency responsible for the country’s chemical weapons program were intercepted in the past six months, according to a confidential U.N. report on North Korea sanctions violations.

 

북한의 제재 위반에 관한 유엔 비밀 보고서에 따르면 시리아의 화학무기 프로그램에 책임지고 있는 시리아 정부 기관에 지난 6개월 동안 2회에 걸쳐 북한의 선적물이 차단되었다

 

North Korea has been under U.N. sanctions since 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programs and the Security Council has ratcheted up the measures in response to six nuclear weapons tests and several long-range missile launches.

 

북한은 2006 년부터 탄도 미사일 및 핵 프로그램에 대한 제재를 받고 있으며, 안전보장이사회는 6 차례의 핵 실험과 여러 차례의 장거리 미사일 발사에 대응해 조치를 단계적으로 강화했다.

 

The world’s chemical weapons watchdog in The Hague opened an investigation on Sunday into attacks in the besieged, rebel-held Syrian region of eastern Ghouta to determine whether banned munitions had been used, diplomatic sources told Reuters.

 

헤이그에 있는 세계의 화학무기 감시단은 일요일에 금지된 군수품이 사용되었는지 여부를 결정하기 위해 동구타(eastern Ghouta)의 포위된 반군 시리아 지역에 대한 공격에 대해 조사를 시작했다고 외교 소식통이 로이터 통신에 전했다.

 

Syria signed up to the international ban on chemical weapons in 2013, as part of a deal brokered by Moscow to avert U.S. air strikes in retaliation for a nerve gas attack that killed hundreds of people, which Washington blamed on Damascus. In the years that followed, Syria’s declared stockpile of banned poison gasses was destroyed by international monitors.

 

시리아는 미국의 공습을 미국이 다마스커스를 비난한 수백 명의 사람들을 죽인 신경가스 공격에 대한 보복으로 돌리려는 러시아에 의해 중재된 협상의 일환으로 2013년에 화학무기에 대한 국제 금지 조치에 서명했다. 수년 동안 시리아가 금지한 독가스의 비축량은 국제감시단에 의해 파괴되었다고 선언했다.
